Roger Federer lost in straight sets to Novak Djokovic in the French Open semi-finals yesterday and then declared Rafael Nadal the “overwhelming favourite” for tomorrow’s showpiece.

Whatever happens, it will be a historic occasion, with Nadal going for a seventh Roland Garros title, beating the record he currently shares with Bjorn Borg, while Djokovic is bidding to become the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to hold all four grand slams at once.
