Former world number one Ana Ivanovic suffered a first-round exit from the Apia International in Sydney as she was beaten 7-6 (7/5) 6-2 by Lucie Safarova.

The first set went with serve all the way before Safarova took the tie-break - and the Czech kicked on from there, breaking twice in a one-sided second set.

Jelena Dokic made the most emphatic possible start to the tournament with a 6-0 6-0 win over fellow Australian Isabella Holland.

The 20-year-old from Brisbane suffered the dreaded “double-bagel” as Croatia-born Dokic powered to victory, taking six of her eight break points.
