Beijing bids farewell to Olympics

Silver medal winner Ken Egan has brought the curtain down on Ireland's Beijing Olympics by carrying the Tricolour in the closing ceremony.

The Dubliner led the Irish team into the Bird's Nest stadium for the spectacular closing ceremony.

This morning, Egan secured Ireland's only silver medal of the games in his bout against China's Zhang Xiaoping.

Egan was beaten 11-7 in a controversial points decision.

Ireland boxing coach Billy Walsh has accused Olympic boxing judges of unfairly handling Ken Egan's defeat in his Light Heavyweight Final in Beijing.

Meanwhile, a concert is getting underway outside Buckingham Palace as an estimated 40,000 people gather to celebrate the Olympic handover.

At the closing ceremony in Beijing, London mayor Boris Johnson received the Olympic flag to signal the start of London's reign as Olympic host city and spark wild celebrations in the capital.

"I'm profoundly humbled by the immense privilege I've been given today," said Johnson.
