Injury has forced tennis top seed Ana Ivanovic to pull out of the Olympics.

Injury has forced tennis top seed Ana Ivanovic to pull out of the Olympics.

The Serbian won the French Open in June and was widely tipped for gold in Beijing.

She had been due to face Ukraine's Mariya Koryttseva in the first round but an injured thumb means she is the latest big name to withdraw from the tournament.

Only nine matches in the Olympic tennis tournament were completed as heavy rain played havoc with the opening day.

Play was eventually called off at 7pm local time.
