Weather spoils tennis opening

Rain today played havoc with the opening day’s action in the Olympic tennis tournament in Beijing with Roger Federer among those players unable to set foot on court.

Only nine matches were completed as heavy rain caused numerous delays throughout the day, and play was eventually called off at 7pm local time.
