Williams lifts Bangalore title

Serena Williams won the Bangalore Open today with a 7-5 6-3 victory over Patty Schnyder.

It marks the 29th career title for the third-seeded Williams, who advanced to the final with a three-set win over sister Venus yesterday.

Williams also won her first title since taking the crown at Miami last April. Two months prior to that, she won her eighth major at the Australian Open.

Williams, who claimed the first prize of US dollars 95,500 (£47,406), improved extended her winning record against Schnyder to 7-3.
