World number two Rafael Nadal has been knocked out of the US Open by fellow Spaniard David Ferrer at the fourth-round stage.

World number two Rafael Nadal has been knocked out of the US Open by fellow Spaniard David Ferrer at the fourth-round stage.

The second seed went down 7-7 6-4 7-6 6-2 in a match that went on into the early hours at Flushing Meadow.

Ferrer, seeded 20, will now go on to play Juan Ignacio Chela in the quarter-finals.
