The 20-year-old British number one has been out of action since injuring his wrist in May and was forced to miss the French Open and Wimbledon.

And a statement on his website, andymurray.com, said: “Andy won’t play any part in the Legg Mason Tennis Classic this coming week.

“He’s pulled out of the tournament in order to focus on continuing the rehab to his wrist.”

However, the Scot has now set his sights on returning in Montreal early next month.

“He is looking ahead positively to the Masters Series event in Montreal,” added the statement.
