Gonzalez speeds into final
Fernando Gonzalez continued his fine form to crush Tommy Haas and book a place in the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
Gonzalez, seeded 10, had dispatched second seed Rafael Nadal in straight sets in the quarter-final and the Chilean was no more merciful to his 12th-seeded German opponent in the semi, prevailing 6-1 6-3 6-1.
In the final, the 26-year-old will face Switzerland’s top seed and defending champion Roger Federer who will be aiming for a 10th career slam title and his third at Melbourne.
It will be the first career slam final for Gonzalez who has won an Olympic gold medal at doubles in Athens 2004 with Nicolas Massu.
