Andy Murray was left to rue missed opportunities after his battling five-set defeat by world number two Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open.

The pair fought out an epic match into the early hours of the morning in Melbourne Park’s Rod Laver Arena, as the Scot let slip a two-sets-to-one lead to eventually fall 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 4-6 6-3 6-1.
