Blake safely through

Fifth seed James Blake made it safely into the second round of the Australian Open after beating Spaniard Carlos Moya 7-6 (10/8) 6-2 6-4 in straight sets.

The 27-year-old American joined seeds Nadal (two), Nikolay Davydenko (three) and Nalbandian (eight) in the next round.

The match was wrapped up in under two hours, despite the heat.

Blake will now meet either Peter Luczak or compatriot Alex Kuznetsov in the second phase of competition.
