Federer sees off Safin

Andy Murray will face Roger Federer in the final of the Kooyong Classic if he beats Andy Roddick tomorrow.

World number Federer is through to the final of the exhibition tournament in Melbourne after defeating Russia’s Marat Safin 6-3 7-6.

The defending Australian Open champion Federer showed a marked improvement on his display against Czech Radek Stepanek on Wednesday and will now face either Roddick or Murray on Saturday.

Earlier in the day Croatian Ivan Ljubicic defeated German Tommy Haas 7-6 6-4 and Stepanek beat Chilean Fernando Gonzalez 6-4 7-6.
