Venus flies through
Defending champion Venus Williams made up for lost time by cruising past American qualifier Bethanie Mattek in just 51 minutes to take her place in the Wimbledon second round today.
Starting one day later than scheduled due to Monday’s near-wipeout, Williams proved a class apart from her 103-ranked opponent and lost a solitary game in a 6-1 6-0 victory.
