Super Mac shines in San Jose
John McEnroe rolled back the years to win the men’s doubles title at the SAP Open in San Jose with Sweden’s Jonas Bjorkman.
The 47-year-old and his team-mate defeated the all-American squad of Paul Goldstein and Jim Thomas 7-6 (7/2) 4-6 10-7 in one hour and 44 minutes.
It was McEnroe’s 78th career doubles title, the first since the 1992 Paris indoor (with brother Patrick) and is now tied with Tom Okker for second-most doubles titles in the Open Era.
McEnroe has now won doubles titles in four different decades and is the first male Hall of Fame inductee to come out of retirement to win a title.
