Murray out of Heineken open
Andy Murray lost 3-6 6-7 (4/7) to Croatian Mario Ancic in the second round of the Heineken Open in Auckland.
Fifth seed Ancic took the upper hand early in the clash, breaking Murray’s serve in the sixth game of the opening set.
Despite the Scot’s best efforts, the first set was soon Ancic’s 6-3.
Ancic, the world number 22, then took charge early in the second set, breaking his opponent’s first service game.
However, Murray was not to be beaten easily and fought back with a break in the fifth game of the second set.
But the 18-year-old missed a number of opportunities. Leading 5-4 he had the chance to take the contest to a deciding set but was unable to capitalise on two set points.
This was all the encouragement Ancic needed as he held his serve to take the second set to a tiebreak.
With the pressure mounting it was the Croatian who again seized the opportunity, Ancic breaking Murray’s serve on the ninth point on his way to a 7-4 tiebreak win.
