Tim Henman’s promising start to 2006 came to an abrupt end in the second round of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha.

Henman looked to have put a miserable 2005 behind him with a straight-sets victory over third seed Richard Gasquet in the previous round.

But the British number one was unable to build on that success today, losing 6-2 7-6 to Tommy Haas.

Haas dominated the opening set and, although the second was a tighter affair, the German prevailed 7/5 in the tie-break to advance to the quarter-finals.
