Murray restores home pride with Wimbledon win

Andy Murray pulled off a stunning second-round Wimbledon victory on the biggest stage of his life this evening.

The 18-year-old from Dunblane lifted the hearts of British tennis fans dismayed by the loss of Henman when he beat 14th seed Radek Stepanek 6-4 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 50 minutes.

It was only Murray’s second Wimbledon senior match and his first time on Court One.

Murray said: "I didn't really expect to win at all, he's a lot better than me, he's top 20 in the world. I actually thought he might be better than what he was.

“I’m just really going to concentrate on my match on Saturday and hopefully I’ll get on Centre Court – I’d really love to play there, it would be a dream.”
