Greg Rusedski crashed out of Wimbledon in the second round after a marathon battle tonight, reducing the number of Britons left in the tournament to just three.

The 31-year-old British number two lost to 11th seed Joachim Johansson after a tie-break in the fourth set.

The crowd backed Rusedski with the support he requested and there was an electric atmosphere in the stands as the two players battled it out.

But as light faded on Centre Court, not even the cheers of loyal fans could save Rusedski from the the power of the 6’6” Swede.

Britain’s hopes now lie with Tim Henman, Andrew Murray and Jane O’Donoghue, after David Sherwood also lost his second round match today.
