Federer through in Paris

Roger Federer remained on course for his first French Open title with a straight sets win over Victor Hanescu of Romania.

Federer won the quarter-final match 6-2 7-6 (7/3) 6-3, but next he faces arguably his biggest test so far – a clash against the winner of Rafael Nadal’s match with fellow Spaniard David Ferrer.

Federer owns a pair of Wimbledon crowns, and he has also won the US and Australian Opens but before Tuesday he had never advanced beyond the last eight at Roland Garros.

He will have it all to do against Nadal if the Spanish teen does win.

Nadal is one of the favourites after winning five titles of his own this season, including victories at Monte Carlo and Rome.
