Coria crashes out of Wimbledon

Guillermo Coria’s loathing of the Wimbledon grass was all too evident as the third seed crashed out at the second round stage to Germany’s Florian Mayer.

Argentinian Coria, the French Open finalist, won the first set but then appeared to run out of ideas as 20-year-old Mayer hit back to seal an impressive 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-4 triumph.

Mayer showed the greater invention throughout with his persistent attempts to draw Coria to the net thanks to a number of clever drop shots.

His reward is a third round meeting with South African veteran Wayne Ferreira who overcame Karol Kucera 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 6-1.
