Federer determined to avoid Hewitt slump

Wimbledon champion Roger Federer hopes lightning will not strike twice at the All England Club today.

The world number one and top seed meets Britain’s Alex Bogdanovic on Centre Court, scene of last year’s stunning defeat for 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt.

The Australian comfortably took the opening set against giant Croatian Ivo Karlovic before slumping to a 1-6 7-6 6-3 6-4 defeat.

“I was watching that match,” Federer said. “I thought it was going to be a difficult match, but I thought he was going to go through.

“I think he won the first set quite comfortably, then he could not control the serve any more.

“Obviously, I hope the same will not happen to me, but you never know. All I can do is try 100% and hopefully it is going to be enough.”
