Gustavo Kuerten’s love affair with the Roland Garros crowd has ended for another year as the three-time French Open winner lost his quarter-final encounter with David Nalbandian in four sets.

Kuerten, the 28th seed, has been a crowd favourite since winning the Grand Slam in 1997, 2000 and 2001, after which he drew a heart on the red clay to express his affection for the French public.
