Williams crushed Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-1 6-4 in 58 minutes.

Meanwhile, Jelena Jankovic of Serbia & Montenegro won her first WTA Tour singles title at the Budapest Grand Prix by defeating Slovakia’s Martina Sucha 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 in the final.

In men's action, Russia’s Nikolay Davydenko captured his third ATP title but his first of the current season as he beat Holland’s Martin Verkerk 6-4 7-5 in the final of the BMW Open in Munich.

And Tommy Robredo gave his hometown fans something to cheer as the eighth seed outlasted 13th seed Gaston Gaudio of Argentina 6-3 4-6 6-2 3-6 6-3 in three hours 46 minutes to win the Open Seat Godo claycourt tournament in Barcelona.
