French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero denied the home crowd the chance of an all-American men’s final in the US Open with a four-set victory over Andre Agassi.

The Spaniard was superb as he raced two sets up, 6-4 6-3, but the veteran American fought back well in the third as he tried to keep the dream of a ninth Slam title alive, coming from a break down to win it 6-3.

However, Ferrero responded in the fourth, and reached the final with the only break of the set in the ninth game, before fending off a break point to hold his serve and take the set 6-4.
