Hewitt opens in style
Lleyton Hewitt began the defence of his Wimbledon crown in impressive style this afternoon when he won the first set of his first round match against Ivo Karlovic.
The Australian number one seed was helped by the erratic serving of the 6ft 10ins Croatian who double-faulted twice in his first two service games to allow Hewitt to surge into a 4-0 lead.
Eventually the inexperienced Karlovic, who was playing only his 11th ATP tour match, overcame his Centre Court nerves to settle into his big-hitting rhythm but it came too late to have an impact as Hewitt, with the aid of yet another double fault, ran away with the first set 6-1 in just 19 minutes.
