Serena survives serious scare

Number one seed Serena Williams today came perilously close to following defending champion Jennifer Capriati out of the Australian Open.

In an extraordinary first-round tie, left-handed Frenchwoman Emilie Loit was a break up in the final set before Williams eventually squeaked through to seal a nailbiting 3-6 7-6 (7/5) 7-5 victory.
