Hingis ruled out of Wimbledon
Martina Hingis has been ruled out of this year’s Winbledon competition after undergoing surgery on a torn ligament in her ankle.
The Swiss star will be sidelined for at least six weeks because of the operation, meaning she will also miss the French Open next week.
Dr Heinz Buehlmann, who carried out the surgery, said he will wait for the swelling to go down before making a definitive assessment.
There were fears that the ankle injury could end Hingis’ career, but she said she fully intends to return to the game following rest and rehabilitation.
