Defending champion Goran Ivanisevic is set to miss Wimbledon after deciding to undergo surgery on his injured shoulder.

The 30-year-old reportedly made the decision after pains in his left shoulder forced him to cut short a training session.

The Croatian press are already saying that Ivanisevic has pulled out of an ATP event in Germany, and is ready to notify Wimbledon officials that he won't defend his men's singles title.

"The pain was excruciating," Ivanisevic told Sportske Novosti daily. "With such a shoulder, there is no point going to Wimbledon."

Ivanisevic, who beat Pat Rafter is last year's Wimbledon final, has been troubled by the shoulder for years.

He has missed a number of tournaments this year and has apparently decided to undergo surgery to try to get back into shape.
