Every four years, when the Olympics rolls round, everybody becomes an armchair expert.

It’s one of its great joys, spending hours getting sucked into an obscure sport and fancying yourself an aficionado.

But how well do you know the history of the modern Games, which began in 1896? A lot has changed since then but the spirit remains the same.
