Russians just can’t get over Katie victory
Sofya Ochigava threw the toys out of the pram after being beaten by Katie Taylor in the Olympic gold medal bout.
Now those comments have been echoed by Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko who questioned the judging at the Olympics, specifically Taylor’s 10-8 win over Ochigava.
“She didn’t deserve such a score. You’d have to be blind,” Mutko was quoted as saying.
The head of Russia’s Olympic Committee, Alexander Zhukov, said the judges may have been swayed by the enthusiastic cheering from the Irish fans.
Mutko, however, was less forgiving, also criticising scoring in the weightlifting events and saying that “a happy ending is being prepared [by Britain] in boxing.”
