All-Ireland invite for Jonas

British boxer Natasha Jonas, who was unlucky to meet Katie Taylor in her opening Olympic bout, has been invited to the All-Ireland Hurling Final next month at Croke Park.

Jonas was beaten by Taylor in the women’s lightweight quarter-final on Monday, but was there to cheer on the Bray heroine as she took the gold medal at the ExCeL Arena on Thursday.

Jonas joined Irish fans afterwards at the adjacent FEDE restaurant and bar, where she received an invite to the final from GAA insurance manager Sinead Quinn.

“Natasha is going to come to the All-Ireland hurling final with her coach Dave Alloway from Wales,” the Mullingar native said.

“They are big fans of hurling and the Liverpool girl said she is going to come over for the All-Ireland Hurling Final.”

Jonas was also keen to praise Ireland’s first Olympic boxing gold medallist in 20 years. “She is a big fan of Katie’s and was glad that the best boxer won the gold.”

Ms Quinn added that people felt sorry that Jonas didn’t win silver as their fight on Monday had been the best of the tournament.
