We might not be hosting it but there was still plenty of Irish involvement in last night’s spectacular Olympic opening ceremony.

Some of our immigrants now living in England were lucky enough to be part of the Danny Boyle directed ceremony, which wowed an estimated worldwide audience of €4bn.

Scattered amongst the 10,000 volunteers taking part in the ceremony were Irish people from virtually every corner of the country.
