‘Atrocious’ run deflates Derval

THE same 100 metres stretch of track which Usain Bolt made his playground on Saturday became the graveyard of Derval O’Rourke’s Olympic ambitions yesterday.

There were no tears or tantrums from the former world indoor champion in the aftermath; but they may come in the weeks and months ahead as the shock dissipates and she replays those 13.22 horrible seconds of a hurdle heat she described as ‘atrocious’.

Breathing heavily, but trying to keep her emotions under wraps, O’Rourke wasn’t putting any spin on what happened.
