Return to Renault ends long troubled year for Alonso

FERNANDO ALONSO yesterday finally put his troubled year with McLaren behind him by returning to the team that made him double world champion.

Alonso has signed a two-year contract with Renault, with an option for a third year, that will reportedly make him the highest-paid driver currently in Formula One.

The 26-year-old’s decision comes in the wake of the FIA opting not to punish Renault for their role in the spy saga, despite finding them guilty on Friday of fraudulent conduct.
