Wimbledon wash out will cost club £1 million

A RAIN-HIT opening day at Wimbledon will cost the All England Club around £1 million.

Organisers were forced to pay out full refunds to 30,000-plus spectators after only 45 minutes’ play.

The All England Club have a policy of offering full refunds if less than one hour’s play is possible due to rain and they no longer have insurance to offset the cost.
