Dunleavy wins intermediate 10,000m title

EMMET DUNLEAVY (Sligo AC) won the men’s Intermediate National title over 10,000m at Tinryland, Carlow yesterday in 29.25.

The Sligo athlete was one of six runners in contention entering the final lap and it was his spring finish which saw Dunleavy home three seconds ahead of Liam O’Halloran of Raheeny Shamrocks, with Mick Kelly of Gowran AC third in 29.31.

The men’s National Masters race of 7k went to Mick Traynor (Raheeny Shamrocks) in a time of 21.06 from Peter Smyth, from North Belfast Harriers, with former National Cross Country champion Noel Berkeley (Dundrum South Dublin) taking third position.

The women’s national 4k title went to Niamh Devlin (DSD) in 13.23 and there was a clean sweep for the capital in this event with Dublin taking the inter county prize and Clonliffe Harriers taking the inter club award.

Pauline Curley (Tullamore Harriers) won the women’s national masters 4k in 12.33 with the inter county award going to Donegal and St Finbarr’s AC, Cork, the inter-club victors.
