O’Neill’s aim for repeat performance

Brendan O’Neill (St. Michael’s, Dublin) will be bidding to replicate his performance as a junior two years ago when he lines up for the under-17 race at the SIAB Schools Cross-Country International in Denbigh, Wales, tomorrow.

This annual event caters for the best under 15, 17 and 19 cross-country runners in the home countries and has been a breeding ground for some of the world’s long distance runners for close on 30 years.

Two years ago O’Neill won the junior title at ALSAA, and he will be hoping for a repeat when he will be supported by a strong KIT KAT Irish schools team that also includes Stephen Scullion (Wellington College), John Coghlan (Castleknock College), son of Eamonn, and Ferdia O hAodha (St. Augustine’s, Dungarvan).

Cathal Dennehy (Ard Scoil Ris), back after a period of prolonged injury, leads the senior boys’ team that includes two Cork athletes, John Shine (Colaiste and Spioraid Naoimh) and Timmy O’Donoghue (Midleton CBS).
