Rousing welcome for golden girl Derval

SHE might have been a relative unknown in the Russian capital where she took gold at the weekend, but such was definitely not the case when national record hurdler Derval O’Rourke flew into Dublin last night.

A large gathering of family and friends were there to give the 24-year-old Cork athlete the homecoming she so richly deserved.

Everyone who happened to be in the terminal at the time of her arrival home last night was happy to give recognition to her stunning achievement at the weekend’s World Indoor Championships.
