Sorensen advances in Switzerland

Irish top seed Kevin Sorensen, with two wins behind him in the Swiss Tennis Satellite series, progressed to the quarter- finals in Crissier yesterday.

The Irish Davis Cup team man beat Jun Kato of Japan 6-3 7-6, taking the second set tie-break 7-4.

Meanwhile Karen Nugent was knocked out in the first round of the ITF Futures tournament in Manchester yesterday.

Number 8 seed Kate O’Brien from Wales won their tie 6-0 6-2.
