McGrath claims Intermediate title

MIDLETON ATHLETE Seán McGrath notched up his most significant performance to date when claiming the Cork Co Intermediate Cross Country title at Bandon.

McGrath and Frank Hayes of East Cork fought out the finish with the Midleton man proving stronger on the final lap of the 8,000m race. Tim Murphy of Togher was third.

The race also incorporated the County Masters’ and Cathal O’Connell was first across the line to take his second consecutive Cork gold in the M40 category.

Orla Tuohy of Grange-Fermoy continued on her winning way, adding this title to the Munster Novice and Intermediate victories of the past few weeks.

The 21-year-old led from the start, finishing well clear of Carmel Crowley of the Bandon club.
