Fitzgerald favourite for tennis championship

Cork's Paul Fitzgerald became an even hotter favourite to win this week's Danone Junior Tennis Championship of Ireland at the Fitzwilliam club when the second seed, Castleknock's James McGee, withdrew.

McGee is still hampered by a wrist injury sustained in a training camp in Spain.

Fitzgerald had an easy day at the office yesterday for he was given a bye into the second round. He faces Daniel Tubridy, who won in straight sets in yesterday's first round.

Donnybrook's Paul Morrissey and Castlebar's Daniel Glancy remain Fitzgerald's main opposition.

The Girls' singles title has a strong favourite in Andrea Maughan, who heads the seeded list in front of Leigh Walsh, with Limerick's Fiona Gallagher seeded three.
