Herbert ahead

Johnny Herbert came out on top at Monza after a thrilling contest with Audi UK team-mate Allan McNish to win the first Le Mans Endurance Series race by less than a second.

Herbert and co-driver Jamie Davies were engaged in a race-long battle with their Audi UK team-mates McNish and Pierre Kaffer which kept the two cars within sight for the entire 1,000 kilometres.

Herbert and McNish finished just 0.6 seconds apart as the new four-race championship also featuring races at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and the Nurburgring started in exciting fashion.
