Sebastien Loeb overcame morning jitters to take control of the Acropolis Rally and put himself on course for a remarkable fifth consecutive victory.

The world champion led overnight after winning the special stage around Athens’ Olympic Stadium but he soon lost out as Marcus Gronholm and Mikko Hirvonen took turns at the top of the leaderboard.

However, Citroen’s superiority soon began to tell and on the final stage of the day, the seventh in all, Loeb took the lead with Gronholm, who won two stages today, 6.1 seconds behind in his Peugeot.
