Tennis upsets in Irish Open

Surprise results marked the penultimate stages of the Danone Irish Open Junior Tennis Championships at the Fitzwilliam club in Dublin yesterday.

And the major shocks came in the U-18 divisions with the girls top seed Joanie Macken of Meath going out, along with the second- seeded Eoin Heavey in the boys’ corresponding event.

James Cluskey the number three seed sent Heavey packing in a terrific three setter which saw the Leinster interpro get through 3-6 6-3 6-1. James McGee went through to the decider on the strength of his hard-earned win over Morgan Dunne 6-4 6-3.
