Magee hangs up his gloves

ULSTERMAN Eamonn Magee last night revealed that his boxing career is over.

WBU welterweight champion Magee suffered a broken leg and a fractured knee after a brutal assault at the weekend in Belfast, when he was dragged from his car and beaten with baseball bats.

Magee said: “I’m so disgusted. I was to sign to fight Sharmba Mitchell this week but I can guarantee that I will not fight again.”

He also admitted that the whole experience was “one of the most frightening experiences of my life”. The 32-year-old is defiantly determined to stay within the sport and is keen to either start training or even managing boxers once he fully recovers.

Magee’s coach John Breen said he was devastated by the news.
