Herbert backing squad

Ex-Formula One driver Johnny Herbert will return to the US after being drafted into the Champion Audi squad.

He competed in the American Le Mans Series last season with Champion but moved back to Europe for 2004.

He joined the new Audi UK squad for the Le Mans Endurance Series but will now fit two ALMS rounds in as well.

Herbert’s return to the ALMS will begin next month in Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, a race he won last season for Champion Audi.

Then the Englishman, who will partner Germany’s Pierre Kaffer, will move on to the final ALMS race of the season at Laguna Seca in October.
