Sonia elected to IAAF Commission

THERE was some consolation for Sonia O’Sullivan with the news yesterday that her fellow athletes had elected her to the IAAF Athletes Commission where she will join such notables as Heile Gebrselassie, Hicham El Guerrouj and Paula Radcliffe to represent athletes from around the world.

More than 1,000 accredited athletes voted over four days to fill the 12 positions on the Commission. Gebrselassie headed the poll with 733 votes while Sonia O’Sullivan received 475 votes, 10 more than Paula Radcliffe.

El Guerrouj was second on the list with 654 votes followed by Debbie Ferguson from the Bahamas.
