O’Dwyer equals high jump record

IRELAND’S Adrian O’Dwyer caused a sensation in Budapest last night when he equalled Brendan Reilly’s national indoor high jump record with a world class 2.28 metre jump, and had the bonus of booking his place for the World Indoor Championships in the same venue in two weeks time.

The 20-year-old O’Dwyer, who only improved his personal best of 2.20 metres at the National Indoor Championships in Belfast two weeks ago brings to ten the number of Irish athletes selected for the World Indoor tests with a decision yet to be made on either the mens or womens 4x400m relay teams.

The performance is all the more significant, considering that only seven men in Europe have jumped higher this year. The full team will be finalised by the end of the week.
