Muckross win six races

The Muckross club from Killarney travelled to the Bantry sprint regatta yesterday and came away with six race wins, ahead of the best West Cork outfit, Skibbereen, who won five.

Fermoy picked up four victories, while Athlunkard won three.

Killorglin also won three races, while the host club Bantry won the Men’s senior open 4, the men’s senior single scull and the Ladies’ senior open 4.

The Celtic Challenge rowing race from Arklow to Aberystwyth in Wales had to be cancelled at the weekend because of strong winds.

The organisers decided to cancel the event on Saturday after the winds gusted up North-East force six, posing a danger for the nineteen skiffs and their crews.
