Holmes frustrated at injury

Kelly Holmes has revealed her frustration at being forced out of this weekend’s European Indoor Championships through injury.

The double Olympic champion reluctantly withdrew from the British team after picking up a hamstring injury at the end of a training session in South Africa on Saturday evening.

The 34-year-old was looking forward to competing in Madrid, which would have been her debut at a European Indoor championship, after an impressive 1000 metres victory in the recent Norwich Union Grand Prix in Birmingham.

Holmes’s confidence after the Birmingham success was boosted further after a positive training session in Potchefstroom last Thursday.

“It went really well and that was the day I made up my mind to compete in Madrid,” said Holmes.

“On Saturday night everything went wrong for my plans when I pulled my hamstring on running the last bend on my final 200m of the night,” said Holmes.
